WILLINGBORO — Police Capt. Kinamo Lomon was officially appointed as the township’s Public Safety Director earlier this month after serving in the role since April.

As public safety director, Lomon will oversee all Willingboro’s emergency services.

Lomon has lived in the township since 1989 and began his career with the Willingboro Police Department in 2000.

“It is amazing to continue to serve the community that I grew up in as the Director of Public Safety. This community has helped mold me into the leader that I am,” Lomon said Thursday. “Willingboro is a special place filled with amazingly talented people.”

“I do not take this opportunity to lead the Public Safety Division of Willingboro Township lightly,” he added.

Lomon was a member and the assistant SWAT team leader until 2016, and has also served as a firearms instructor, defensive driving instructor, police academy physical training instructor and field training officer.

He was a sergeant in the street crimes unit, detective sergeant in the department’s criminal investigations division, and in 2016 was promoted to lieutenant in the criminal investigations division, where he was the division’s commanding officer.

In March 2019, Lomon was promoted to captain.

However, as public safety director, Lomon will serve in a civilian role overseeing public safety division, which includes the police, fire and EMS departments as well as the office of emergency management.

At the helm, Lomon plans to continue to foster an atmosphere where service to the community is the No. 1 priority and where Willingboro first responders actively engage those they serve.

“It is my expectation that the men and women of the Public Safety Division will seek opportunities of community engagement with our residents as they provide services,” Lomon said. “A focus on community engagement will help strengthen the bonds that are currently in place throughout the community of Willingboro."

Lomon has a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a master’s degree from Ashford University.

He has also graduated from the FBI National Academy.
