Horseshoe Bay fire leads to evacuations

Fire and emergency crews in Llano and Burnet counties on Thursday responded to a brush fire that grew to 400 acres and led to the evacuation of at least two subdivisions in Horseshoe Bay.

9:30 p.m. update: Texas A&M Forest Service tweeted shortly after 9 p.m. that evacuations have been lifted in the area, and said residents could return to their homes.

Officials said the fire, which is about 400 acres, is now 40% contained.

CBS Austin has reported that at least one home was destroyed in the fire.

Earlier in the evening, the outlet had reported that two homes were reportedly destroyed, but later clarified that one of the homes were destroyed due to heavy water damage.

9 p.m. update: Texas A&M Forest Service officials tweeted around 8:25 p.m. that the fire in Llano County is now about 400 acres, and is 30% contained.

8:30 p.m. update: The brush fire that has led to evacuations of at least two subdivisions near Horseshoe Bay is now estimated to cover about 330 acres, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

CBS Austin tweeted around 8:16 p.m. that two homes have reportedly been destroyed.

The forest service tweeted around 7:30 p.m. that the fire is 30% contained.

7 p.m. update: The Texas A&M Forest Service tweeted that the fire near Horseshoe Bay is estimated to be about 300 acres. Forest service officials said the fire is about 10% contained, adding that evacuations are still underway.

According to a Thursday post on the Marble Falls Fire Rescue Facebook page, multiple structures are threatened by the fire.

Multiple emergency agencies, including those from Burnet and Llano counties, along with Texas Forest Service and STAR Flight teams, are responding to the fire, according to the Facebook post.

“There is a lot of smoke and falling ash. Please be aware of your surroundings,” the post stated.

Earlier: Horseshoe Bay city officials on Thursday said a “major brush fire” has led to evacuations of two subdivisions.

Officials said evacuations are underway in both The Trails and Blue Lake subdivisions, which are located in the western edge of Horseshoe Bay.

Horseshoe Bay is a city located about 50 miles northwest of Austin.
