Hays County reports 16 new coronavirus cases, 67 recoveries

Hays County health officials on Tuesday reported 16 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of lab-confirmed cases to 5,066.

County officials did not report any coronavirus-related fatalities on Tuesday. On Monday, officials said a man from Buda in his 40s had died over the weekend.

Health officials have reported 35 COVID-19 fatalities since the start of the pandemic.

County health officials on Tuesday also said 67 more people have recovered from COVID-19, for a total of 2,295.

The county has 2,736 active cases as of Tuesday. The county did not report any new hospital admissions, but said one person had been discharged.

Of the 124 people hospitalized for COVID-19 so far, 19 were in hospitals on Tuesday.

The number of negative tests is 22,518. Epidemiologist Eric Schneider is awaiting results on 38 tests.

“Decreasing cases are a good thing, but we know this pandemic isn’t over,” Schneider said in a written statement. “Everyone needs to continue taking all the necessary safety precautions to continue to slow the spread of the virus.”
