Austin alcohol sales up 10 percent in March

A lot of golf was played at the Dell Technologies Match Play tournament in March, and a lot of alcohol was consumed as well, according to an American-Statesman analysis of state data.

The top selling Austin alcohol vendor in March was Crave Catering, which sold $1.27 million worth of beer, wine and mixed drinks during the tournament from March 27 to 31 at the Austin Country Club.

Citywide, bartenders, restaurants and hotels sold $88.5 million worth of alcohol in March, which, thanks to South by Southwest, is always a top selling month. Austin sales increased 10% in March 2019 compared to the same month in 2018.

Across Texas, March bar tabs totaled $711.6 million, a 7.5% year-over-year increase.

For the month, the top-selling statewide venue was Houston's NRG Park, which hosted the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from Feb. 25 through March 17. The event's March sales tally was $3.4 million.

Austin's No. 2-ranked business was the JW Marriott hotel, 110 E. 2nd St., which came in at $1.2 million. Next was Unbarlievable, 76 Rainey St., where cash registers took in $859,100.
