Pedestrian killed in crash near downtown Austin

Austin police are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 35 that left a pedestrian dead Sunday morning.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded to the crash in the 200 block of N. I-35 near Cesar Chavez Street near downtown Austin around 4:20 a.m.

Police said a pedestrian was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was shut down for several hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
