Comal County: 7th coronavirus death, 3 new cases brings total to 90

Comal County health officials reported the county’s seventh death and three new cases of COVID-19, the illness associated with the coronavirus, for a total of 90 cases on Thursday.

A New Braunfels man in his 90s, who tested positive on May 12, died in a San Antonio hospital on May 17. The Office of Public Health confirmed the positive result and his subsequent death late Wednesday, officials said.

The other two new cases are both Canyon Lake residents. One person is in their 60s and lives on the north side, where they are home-isolating. The other is in their 80s, lives on the south side, but is in a hospital in New Braunfels.

The county has tallied 67 recoveries and only 16 active COVID-19 cases, with four of them hospitalized.

As of Thursday, the Comal County Office of Public Health reported that:

· 2,959 tests have been conducted

· 90 tests were positive

· 2,770 tests were negative

· 99 results are still pending

This data include 1,465 nursing home tests taken last week, of which 1,433 were negative and one was positive, with the rest pending, officials said.

Among the 90 confirmed cases in Comal County:

· 37 are from New Braunfels or the immediate area

· 13 are from the Bulverde area

· 15 are from north of Canyon Lake

· 7 are from eastern Comal County

· 4 are from south of Canyon Lake

· 3 are from Garden Ridge

· 4 are from the Spring Branch area

· 2 are from Fair Oaks Ranch

· 2 are from southwest Comal County

· 2 is from central Comal County

· 1 is from Schertz
