A man is accused of shooting his girlfriend's former boyfriend during an argument Wednesday in Bartlett, according to an arrest affidavit.

Kelvin Alonza Sanders Sr., 66, of Bartlett was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The city of Bartlett straddles the line between Williamson and Bell counties. The victim was wounded in the arm, the affidavit said.

It said police were notified at 6 p.m. Wednesday about the shooting at a poolhouse in the 400 block of West Clark Street. Sanders drove to the home and then walked into the poolhouse, where the victim was talking to Sanders' girlfriend, the affidavit said.

Sanders' girlfriend told police that Sanders began yelling at the victim and then kicked him, according to the affidavit. She said the victim pushed Sanders down, according to police. She told police that Sanders then pulled out a handgun and shot at the victim three times, the affidavit said.

It said she then ran outside to get the owner of the house, and when she came back to the poolhouse she saw the victim and Sanders on the floor in a corner and that she had to separate the two men. She said she told Sanders to go home and take a shower because he had blood on him, the affidavit said.

It said she made the victim take his shirt off and saw a gunshot wound in his upper right arm. She then drove with him to Sanders house, where she asked Sanders what kind of gun he had used, the document said. It said Sanders told her he had used a .22 caliber handgun.

Sanders' girlfriend then gathered her belongings from his house and drove the victim to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, the affidavit said. It said police found a .22 casing at the scene of the crime.

Sanders was being held at the Williamson County Jail on Friday with bail set at $40,000.
