Austin alcohol sales up 13.5% in January
Alcohol sales at Austin-area bars, restaurants and hotels jumped 13.5 percent in January, according to an American-Statesman analysis of state data.
Citywide, bartenders poured $61.5 million worth of beer, wine and mixed drinks during the month, compared to $54.2 million during the same month in 2018.
For Texas as a whole, bar tabs were up 12.3 percent year over year, growing from $511.9 million in 2018 to $575 million in 2019, according to state data.
The top-selling venue statewide was AT&T Stadium in Arlington, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, which rang up $2.8 million in sales during the month. That was followed by the Gaylord Texan resort in Grapevine, which had $2.2 million in alcohol sales.
Locally, as usual, the JW Marriott Austin, 110 E. Second St., was the top-selling venue in Austin, with receipts totaling $796,429. Coming in next was the Fairmont Austin Hotel, 101 Red River St., with $628,374 in sales, followed by Buford's, 700 W. Sixth St., which sold $432,865 worth of alcohol.
