Central Texas freezing weather: What has been closed, delayed or canceled so far?

A mix of unstable air and cold temperatures has generated freezing rain throughout Central Texas since Thursday. Elevated surfaces, such as overpasses and bridges, have iced over and made road travel dangerous. The following is an updated list of weather-related closures, delays or cancellations:

Austin

Austin school district: Monday is a student holiday.

City of Austin: The Austin Parks and Recreation Department will be closing year-round city pools, tennis centers, and city golf courses starting at 1 p.m. Thursday. For more information on PARD facility closures, visit austintexas.gov/parkclosures.

Austin Resource Recovery: ARR is asking customers with a Monday or Tuesday collection day to set carts or other items for collection out as usual, but to be aware that services may be delayed if severe weather persists. Austin Code has confirmed there will be no citations issued for carts or items left at the curb for collection while delays persist.

Recycling, composting, trash, yard trimmings, bulk item, large brush, street sweeping and dead animal collections will be suspended if severe weather persists and resume as weather permits, possibly in the middle of the week.

Austin Community College: Officials said that out of an abundance of caution, ACC will remain closed Monday and Tuesday. All in-person and remote classes and work are canceled during this time. Virtual support, including ACC Libraries, remain open and on a regular schedule Sunday. 

Austin American-Statesman: Morning newspaper deliveries were delayed in some areas and canceled in others. 

University of Texas: The Austin campus will be closed from 4 p.m. Sunday until 8 a.m. Wednesday amid forecasts of severe weather in Central Texas. All classes and events will be canceled, including virtual classes and online events, according to a university statement Sunday.

YMCA: All YMCA of Austin branches will be closed on Monday.

Travis County

Capital Metro: On Monday and Tuesday, Capital Metro will operate with adjusted service hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. All fare collection has been suspended through Tuesday. Additionally, the transit agency will not operate the following services through Tuesday:

• No MetroRail service
• No Rail Connector service (Routes 465 and 466)
• No MetroExpress service (Routes 935, 982, 985, and 990)
• No Flyer route service (Routes 103, 105, 111, 135, 142, 152 and 171)
• No Lago Visa Feeder (Route 214)
• No Pickup service
• No UT Shuttle Service

Resumption of this service is dependent on the campus reopening for students.

Customers with urgent requests should call Capital Metro’s Customer Service GO line at 512-474-1200. All weather-related detours will be updated on MetroAlerts and CapMetro.org/Service-Alerts.

Eanes school district: Due to inclement weather and potential staff shortages tomorrow due to other school districts going virtual, Eanes will cancel school (in-person and remote) on Friday.

Del Valle school district: 100% remote learning. Meals for students will be available for curbside pickup at Del Valle High School, Ojeda Middle School and Dailey Middle School from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Lake Travis school district: Friday was already a student holiday but district offices will now remain closed.

Manor school district: Friday was a previously scheduled student holiday.

Hill Country

Burnet school district: All classes canceled Monday and Tuesday.

Blanco school district: All classes canceled.

Llano school district: Classes canceled.

Williamson County

Offices closed Friday: Williamson County offices will be closed on Friday. Essential personnel will still report for duty. The Office of Emergency Management encourages people not to travel unless it is necessary. Georgetown: City of Georgetown facilities will be closed to the public Monday

Round Rock school district: All campuses will be closed Friday and all classes will take place 100% virtually. 

Georgetown school district: All after-school activities have been canceled.

Hutto school district: 100% remote learning. All after-school activities have been canceled with the exception of YMCA after-school.

Leander school district: All activities scheduled for Monday, Feb. 15 are canceled.

Hays County 

COVID-19 vaccination clinic: Second dose appointments for Monday are moving to Wednesday and will still be administered at San Marcos High School. Appointments will be at the same time as they would have been on Monday. The next first dose clinic will be Tuesday and Wednesday in Dripping Springs. Appointments are expected to open soon. 

Hays school district: The district will be 100% virtual for students and staff Monday. The district central office will be open to conduct required school board election activities only, in compliance with the Texas Election Code. Staff is monitoring conditions for Tuesday.

Dripping Springs school district: School canceled.

San Marcos school district: Monday classes 100% virtual

Hays County offices: All county offices and facilities will open on a delayed schedule Friday. County offices will open at 10 a.m., and parks will open at noon, according to officials.

Texas State University: Campus will be closed through Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 8 a.m. due to inclement weather. University officials said weather and road conditions will continue to be monitored and will announce the operational status of campuses beyond Wednesday at 8 a.m. no later than Tuesday, Feb. 16 at  5 p.m.

Fort Hood

Sunday update: Most Facilities on Fort Hood will continue to be closed. The Clear Creek (Main) Exchange and both commissaries on post will remain closed.

The III Corps Express, however, will remain open 24 hours. For more details regarding Exchange operations, visit The Fort Hood Exchange Facebook page.

Fort Hood dining facilities will be open per their regular schedules.
