The Del Valle school board has named Annette Villerot as the district's acting superintendent, effective Wednesday.

Villerot, who has been with the district for two years, had been serving as deputy superintendent for Del Valle. She steps into the new role as Superintendent Kelly Crook makes her departure, which becomes effective June 27. Villerot then will transition from acting superintendent to interim superintendent on July 1.

Before she came to the district in 2017, Villerot served as the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the Pflugerville, Comal and Manor school districts.

In July, the Del Valle school board will discuss the process for a national search to find a permanent replacement for Crook, who had been with the district for 16 years, half of that time as superintendent.

“We are pleased that Dr. Villerot has accepted the position as interim and know her demonstrated leadership will be valuable as we move through this process,” said board President Rebecca Birch. “We look forward to engaging the community to provide input through our national search process to find the best leader for Del Valle ISD."

Crook announced her upcoming departure earlier this month, saying she and the district “recognize that now we are required and ready to change our focus and accept new challenges.”

Crook will leave the district with four years remaining on her contract, which expires June 30, 2023. It is unclear whether she will be paid for any of her remaining time left. In her role, she earned an annual base salary of $223,326.
